NORTH BY NORTHWEST
29th September - 11th October. Opening Night - Monday 29th 6pm - 8pm

Opening hours 30th Sept - 11th October 12pm - 4pm CLOSED SUNDAY

North by Northwest is the name of a series of exhibitions being staged during Sept, Oct and November by members of the Peripheral Collective, Leeds and the SOUP collective, Liverpool. Peripheral was founded in November 2005 by Information Assistants from the Henry Moore Institute with the intention of curating exhibitions of their current work and focusing on their ongoing practice and agendas. They have staged four exhibitions in the 12 months between Sept 2006 and Sept 2007 at the Design Innovation Centre, Whitehall Waterfront (Now Project Space Leeds), Holy Trinity as part of Ladyfest and Shipley Glen Tramway as part of the Saltaire Arts Trail. The SOUP collective came about under similar circumstances in 2000. Following a series of chance meetings and phone calls the North by Northwest project was born.

Taking place simultaneously in numerous venues across Leeds and Liverpool a total of 50 artists from the 2 groups will be presenting their work and in the process exploring what it means to collaborate on a large scale. Works will range from the more traditional practices of painting, sculpture and photography to the more conceptual and process based practices such as installation and informational art.

NxNw is also a part of the Liverpool Biennial.
More information about the artists and venues involved can be found athttp://www.peripheral-artists.com, http://www.freewebs.com/tatesoup/ and http://www.independantsbiennial.org.uk and look for North by Northwest under events
